Timaya – Amayanabo

In early 2015 Timaya opened the year with Amayanabo, a high-tempo single that arrived as a clear statement of confidence. The title itself is drawn from Ijaw language and carries the weight of “king” or “owner of the land,” a phrase that sits at the centre of the song’s message.

The production keeps the energy bright and dancefloor-ready, built for the streets and clubs that had already embraced Timaya’s blend of dancehall and Nigerian pop. Over the bouncing rhythm he addresses criticism head-on, declaring that whatever he does will draw talk, then shrugs it off while claiming his place as both celebrity and king. The tone is playful yet firm, the kind of self-assured flex that feels natural coming from an artist who had already spent a decade shaping his sound from the Niger Delta outward.

Released under Dem Mama Records, Amayanabo sat comfortably in the run of singles that followed the Epiphany era. It never needed to reinvent Timaya’s style.
